Creative Expressions
Sofia Nadine is an interdisciplinary artist with a background at the Willem de Kooning Academy and the Royal Academy of Art. In her portfolio she expresses herself through music, visual art and literature. Driven by a deep sensitivity to the beauty she finds in the everyday, she creates poetic works that invite wonder & presence.
Through her voice, she explores the emotional and energetic possibilities of sound. Alongside her vocal practice, she writes poetry and prose in Dutch - soulful reflections that echo the same delicacy and curiosity as throughout the rest of her work.
In her visual art she uses glass optics and textile craftmanship as her medium. Her sculptures form an ode to light and explore how materials can express perception and emotion. Through intuition, she pushes the boundaries of traditional craft, revealing hidden qualities and creating new ways of experiencing them.
Music
Sometimes I love to take audio recordings instead of photos. Sound connects me to a moment in a way that images can’t quite capture.
Through singing, I explore the emotional and energetic possibilities of my own body, playing with tone, resonance, texture and pitch as a way of discovering new forms of expression.
I am trained in vocal techniques by the methods of the Universal Voice Institute and EVT. I like to approach sound with openness and curiosity. My process is guided by feeling and connection.
Much of my singing arises spontaneously through intuitive sounds, layered harmonies and shifting melodies that emerge in the moment. I am interested in the space where sound can touch a part in another that exists beyond reason or explanation.
I like to write and compose my own songs, allowing melodies, lyrics and harmonies to unfold in an intuitive and organic way. Some of these pieces are created in combination with the piano, harp or the electric guitar, where the instrument becomes part of the musical landscape.
It's a remembering.
It's a softening.
A vulnerable space that moves beyond the rational mind & speaks directly to the heart.
